The Case of the Missing Bones

Kids are full of wonderful ideas, and if you can harness their attention long enough, they can spin some pretty good yarns. To that extent, my son and I worked on a short story project together.

A couple of years ago, he'd created a world with dogs and called it Dogland before we had any other concepts. We worked in two main characters, small spaniels named Bailey and Bentley, decided to make them dog detectives, and made Dogland be our back yard. A couple of weeks later we had our first Dogland Mystery: The Case of the Missing Bones.

The blurb:
There's trouble in Dogland.
It's no fun when someone steals your bones, especially after you've built up a nice collection of scraps from the Humans. Bailey and Bentley are on the case, and they want their bones back. As they investigate, they find danger behind every doghouse, and if the culprit gets their way, they may not make it back to Dogland at all.

We have more stories up our sleeves, so stay tuned for new releases.

White Elephant

There was a recent writing challenge proposed by Joe Konrath, who has done more for independent publishing than just about anyone. The challenge: you have eight hours to write a short story, create a cover, format, and upload it. Three hours of writing, an hour for the other stuff, and we have White Elephant, a ten-page short story.

I wrote the first 100 words of this a year ago. A challenge like this worked well for me to finish this story, and it turned out pretty well. It's on Amazon here for 99 cents.

I have also included the entire first installment of The Blind: Episode I (Plank Bridge Bayou).
